A little post from Chauffeuring the Fat Kid

WSOBP III Champions Jeremy Hughes and Michael OrrA Little Post From Chauffeuring the Fat Kid

What up all,

We just wanted to say a few words to all of the loyal beer pong players, tossing bpong balls all over the country, and other countries as well (not to leave out our friendly neighbors to the north). Great tournament this year to everyone. We are so psyched to have won. It is unbelievable. To come out on top over all of the other great teams out there is a phenomenal feeling.

To the IWC:
You boys are sick players. Top ten all three years, that's nuts. You guys seemed cool, too bad we didn't get to play some games outside of the tournament as well. The first two games you guys shot against us (one before the final match, where you put us into the loser's bracket) you couldn't miss. That shit was amazing. If a four cup run was made against us in the finals to come back, a little push would have been taken from our poop as well. We were grateful for the chance to play you two in the finals though, since you handed us a loss earlier that day. Hope to see you boys in the finals next year as well.

To the rest, as far as us being entitled the best in the world for a year, a few words. There are a lot of teams out there that have the potential to win. You can tell who they are too, because they continually seem to finish up near the top (IWC, Kobe, Smashing Time, etc...). The only way one of us can come out on top is by hitting at the right time, and missing at the right time. It is kind of like poker in that sense. You do everything you can to elevate your game, but if your not hitting at the right time it isn't going to do you any good (i.e. four cups for OT). As it turns out, this was our year.

To address the whole east/west argument over where we are from, a few more words. We grew up playing in Pittsburgh. It is where we learned the game and where we got our sense of competition for it. Personally, when I (Fat Kid) moved to Tucson to go to the UofA, I saw shit for intensity or competition (in the beer pong arena). It took me months to accidentally stumble upon the Pi Kapp’s, who ended up having a bunch of good players to play with, not to mention plenty of tables to play on. It was tough to even find money games for Christ's sake. We now live in San Diego though, and have found a good circle of competitive teams to play.

Thanks to the boys at Socalbeerpong.com, competition is really coming up on the west coast. They run tournaments and a league; they are doing a lot for the game out here. If the teams out here weren’t amazing shooters we wouldn't have been able to keep our game sharp. Just look at the teams in the top ten this year from SoCal: us, purefilth, kobe, and those are only the ones we can think of off the top of our heads. Of course, the east coast is always running strong as well. We need some teams representing the Midwest and perhaps even the Dirty South, haha. That would really get things going.

Thanks to all the SoCal teams for the competition and friendship the past year. We slapped hands with team Kobe before every game in the final day to say “let’s do this”, which is really awesome because we knew we were both going for the same goal but still wanted each other to play the best we could.

Thanks to Tight Rack for all the support as well. Last year we became good friends with Steven and Reed the first night, and partied hard with them every night there on out. They were a big cheering section for us last year and it feels good to succeed when your boys are right there watching. Thanks to J and Flink (team Quakerville USA) for coming this year (they were the guys who used to kick our asses way back when they were teaching us the game). They made it through half of the last day but the old age got to them, haha. We also want to give props to Smashing Time and tall Shawn from Shawn^2. We had the privilege of playing them the night before the final day, and they really put some fire under our asses…we needed that.

There are a lot of really good teams nowadays, and at any given time it could be anyone’s win. We’re glad that the sport we played during school (played more than studying) gave us the best day of our lives. I hope there is more to come . . .

To all the Beer Pong players out there – we all are who we are because:

"Most people go to parties and play beer pong, we go to play beer pong and there’s parties."
