  • Agreed with all the other post thought it was an awful idea esp since I live in philly and its an hour away from AC.   From talking to a couple of the WBPT guys the main reason was a extreme cost savings especially on the kegs.  Dont know the exact dollar amount but remember them sayin the casino was charging them 3 to 4 times the price for a keg.   They were not allowed to bring their own beer in.

I also agree with Barnes on the location is not much of the draw.  I would have travelled to any shithole city to play.   Hopefully someone steps up and has a big tourny somewhere driving distance on the East Coast.  Pops said that RAX in Long Isle is kicking arround the idea of a 10K sometime in 2010.

  • However, you can't deny that recreational players are more likely to come out to an event if it's in a desirable location and IMO Vegas easily trumps AC...

I disagree, I don't think recreational players would want to spend all that money to go out there and then get their asses handed to them.  Especially if a lot of recreational players are on the East Coast, I could see them favoring AC over Las Vegas.

  • This is a general reality for people that live within driving distance (or a short/cheap flight) to Vegas:
    1)  WSOBP - an awesome, proven event, even if it is somewhat expensive.
    2)  AC - an unknown/unproven event, & even more expensive to attend.

Speaking purely for myself - it killed me that I couldn't go (had a good friend's wedding that weekend), and I didn't understand why any of our elite teams didn't go.

On Piotr's note - I'm not sure it's a conscious decision, but no one wants to be a guinea pig.  For the people that could afford it, the knowledge that the event could be a dud made it too easy to skip it.  Knowing things went down relatively smoothly, I'm sure more people would make the trek out for the future.

There is always a group of people who can't afford 2 big beer pong events per year (flight or no flight), in which case moving to Vegas won't help - cause they'll still choose the WS.

  • I own and fly my own private jet. It seats 48 people. If anyone would like a ride to Vegas in June, please let me know. I will even pick you up in your city if you wish.

I'm not sure Vegas is the answer for making something cheaper.

  • $200 plus for a keg is a lot cheaper then what the shitty flamingo charges.

  • We definitely need more big tournaments on the East Coast. I don't play much anymore, but I would always play the big tournaments if they were closer. AC would definitely have been easier for me than Vegas IMO. The last AC tourney was perfect. The only money I spent for the trip was a couple dollars for tolls and gambling.

  • No one has mentioned that the WBPT vegas tournament is in JUNE in Vegas. Holy fucking Hell its gonna be so hot. I was there yesterday and it was 82 in November

Vegas was a mistake for World Pong Tour. they had a pretty good turn out for AC and I think it would have grown each year. if you look back at world series one and two they were not huge events.

I like the people at both companies but Bpong's tournament was more official. And I prolly wont spend the money for two trips out to vegas for beerpong tournaments in one year. I feel like a lot of east coasters will end up going only to the world series but we will see.

oh and all the satellites are being run on the east coast so now all those winners have to spend $400 on airfare.

East Coast needs a 50k tournament AC isn't that great of a location so if it was too expensive find somewhere better. Lots of cities have hotels with convention centers.
