So i guess there is a bidding contest going on..before both were 50K then wsobp raised the bar to 65K and then wpongtour raised the bar to 75K the way this is going someone will be winning 100K soon!

There is no bidding contest from our end.  We just do everything we can do to promote the sport, and it has nothing to do with what others may be doing.  We've been wanting to pay out over $100k at The WSOBP for three years now, but we're not going to recklessly throw out a number we can't back, either.  When the time is right, we'll put up $100k (or more).  Maybe somebody else will beat us to it - oh well.  Anybody remember the $250,000 tournament from a few years ago?

Well i wouldnt call it a bidding contest....WPT was doin a 50K prize pool, while bpong is doin a 65K prize pool with a 50K 1st place prize. WPT recently joined up with King of cups, who were going to do a singles tourny wit a 25K prize pool, so now that weekend in June will have a doubles tourny worth 50K and a singles tourny for 25K.........but it wouldnt hurt to eventually see a 100K tourny!

Is this actually happening? I saw a post yesterday on their site, but then it was taken down today. Maybe they got cold feet. Or maybe they realized that working with an unknown company with no track record would make them look like idiots...

  • I think we arent looking at the bigger picture.  So far both WSOBP and WBPT have been focused on growing and marketing to the country better than the other, but the winner will be the first one of them to rope in the Global market.  WSOBP video had "players from canada" in small print and WBPT has the "World" in its name, but getting American players to travel overseas and the rest of the world to come to vegas will answer this question once in for all.  Think of all the places you would travel to play: Cancun, Oktoberfest, Ibiza-Spain, Australia, Ireland, and the possiblities are endless.  Which one will start giving away travel packages and then promoting this?  I know we are in a reccession and it might take 5+ yrs but there is your winner.

We are looking at the biggest picture, not just a bigger picture.  What you see us do and what you see on this site represents only a tiny fraction of what we have been working on behind the scenes.  We've already been working towards worldwide expansion for the last few years, among many other things.  It takes an incredible amount of time for all the pieces to come together.  Some of the things we tried to create did not materialize while others still have a fighting chance.  I personally don't like to get people excited about things until they are firmly locked down.  Just because you don't see it yet doesn't mean there aren't a ton of other things going on.  There is a lot more to come . . .

  • I wouldn't say they are competing with each other. I mean WSOPB is in January and the WBPT is in June. I think both companies are intelligent enough to respect the others and not interfere with what the other is doing. WBPT is trying to team up with King of the Cups because it makes too much sense. Who would go out in July to vegas and take another 3 or 4 days off of work after you were just there in June? I think both are good for each other. Mostly Bpong for midwest and the west coast and WBPT for the east coast. And if you hear of one, you may hear of the other, so they in a way advertise each other with their big tournaments. King of the Cups does not have a reputation yet, but I think if Sam decides to work with them, everyone will give them the benefit of the doubt purely based on Sams reputation alone. As with Bpong, if Billy decided to team up with another company, im also certain no one would question that as well. Beer pong will build based on the reputations of those who run these 2 sites, while keeping their own individuality by having their own rules and products to play with and on

I agree with Jason on this. How are the two competing? WBPT is widely based on the east coast, and while they have begun to have qualifiers in more states, including the west coast, I dont think that its "stealing" any business from BPONG. BPONG seems to be more focused on west coast and midwest in terms of the states that have more satellites, or states that were hit in the recent tour that the guys from BPONG went on. Satellites in NY for example have been scarce, besides the few that people I know put together... It seems like each has a huge presence on their respective coasts, and I'm jealous to see the amount of satellites that constantly occur in Cali, and the west coast. I know its because Vegas is a hop skip and a jump away and you guys dont have to worry about dropping 3-500 on airfare to the event, which is why for the WBPT $25K tourney in AC, there wasnt really any west coast teams that made the journey.

I think it would have been great to have 2 big tourneys, one on the east coast and one on the west coast during the year so pong could be more widespread and give more people a chance to attend these events, but I see what Sam's doing in trying to move the event out west to appeal to more west coast and midwest teams that otherwise wouldn't make the trip..  I would have originally said there would be some fallout with not as many east coasters making this trip as did AC, but the fact that he's working with the Kings of the Cup guys help ensure he will have a good showing.

As far as competition tho, its not like either of these companies are stealing business from one another.. Doesn't seem like much of a competition; its not like Sam's trying to go out to Vegas in January and setup a tourney then. If you're a pong player, you've gotta obviously be happy with more big tourney's throughout the year, so its hard to argue

REALLY lol tell me how the two are competing for business, please. I have respect for both, and don't think to this point either has been detrimental towards the other
