  • Is anyone better sober?  Is anyone even half the player they are sober compared to having a good buzz on?

I understand the alcohol should help with pressure situations but even in no-pressure games I kinda suck sober.

  • I most always play sober but if I have a crown on the rocks an hour before a tourny it does help to relax doesnt do much to me as in a buzz wise but i think it puts it in my head to relax! definatly play mostly sober all the time though!

  • I dont understand why people are better. I cant imagine kobe getting a buzz on to make some must hit free throws. I dont see how you could be better by drinking. I mean doesnt it impair your vision and focus? lol. I think it doesnt really matter for me. Ive played good sober and buzzed and played like shit sober and buzzed. Id like to add im good when im hungover for some reason lol.

The reason people are better when drunk playing beer pong but not in other sports is that there's no strength, speed, agility, jumping etc... involved in beer pong. Alcohol diminishes your ability to do all those things but they don't exist in this game. Ron said earlier that he gets wasted and lets muscle memory take over. This is right on, muscle memory is the most important variable and it is barely diminished by intoxication.

As for me, when i'm sober I grip the ball way too hard which forces a curve on my shot. So drinking beforehand relaxes me to the point that my hand relaxes. I shoot 25% better buzzed than sober. Some people have nerve problems that are eliminated by drinking. Other people over think things when sober but not drunk. So all those problems are eliminated by drinking while your max skill level is only slightly diminished by drinking.

i used to think it made a difference... but now i'm not sure it does.

do i play better cause i got some drinks in me... maybe.  or did i just get better because i got some warm-up games in me (and at the same time got some drinks in me)?

at this point i've basically come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter.  in the end i'll shoot the same percentage over the course of 10 games or whatever.

we won one satellite sober and won one when we were really hungover but then got drunk.  so it's a mystery for me.I do not know

I've noticed that I have started drinking less and less at tournaments.

When I first started playing tournaments, my hands would literally shake if I didn't have a good amount of booze in me - that's how nervous I was. I literally had to have a good buzz going just to calm myself down.

However, after playing a ton of tourneys and getting used to the pressure, I noticed my drinking decreased. I still like to have a couple drinks, but no where near as many as i used to. In fact, I've noticed when I play casully that if i do drink as much as I used to, my game deteriorates.

  • i can vouch for sonomajoe, he was obliterated at the end of the open. and when he says he drank 8 jack n cokes in 4 games, also the truth. but please note, that he's about 6'7 340lbs. This isnt something normal human beings should try. hahaha

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

That being said, I think Vegas is a different story for me, at least. I really need a buzz to be able to deal with that pressure there. However, if I've drank too much, it can backfire on me.

I remember being 100% fine during the finals of WS3. No nerves whatsoever. It felt like I was playing in my garage or something. But once CFK rebutted those 4 cups, I blacked out. I don't remember the OT of that game or the 2nd game at all. This has happened a few times to me at tournies since, as well. It seems like maybe my adrenaline is keeping me aware and awake and then something shitty happens and my brain just shuts off.
