  • lol i offer all girls team free entry to come out, and half price for guy girl teams,  so I am trying to get more girls but they arent the first to jump at the event.  Well except for the ones that realize there will be 40-80 guys in one spot drinking

    Not to be a dick or anything, but that also looks like it would severely hinder a lot of defense on shots that bounce up off the cups.

    this is definitely true and it's crossed my mind as well. it would still be possible to play defense, it would just be a harder - guess it would add another element to defense. it would also be possible for the ball to bounce off the bar and go in, though i think that would happen very rarely.

  • Dane, you're right. How WOULD I be able to roundhouse last cups with that bar? It's like anti-roundhouse or some shit.

    The vertical extender is a way of essentially enforcing elbow rule on the current table though... it's also an alternative to actually moving to longer tables - you could make it longer with the extender.  

     
    I like it.  Any change has to come from the top though.  BDS has made it clear they never wanted to become the governing body of beer pong but they are.  Until they go with extenders or different tables no one else is.

    this is very similiar to an idea I brought up a few years ago
    Basically a "leaf" that extends the table, making it a foot or two longer on one side.
     
    It could clip on to one side, and viola you have longer tables without a complete replacement.

  • I have never run any tournaments but I'm going to throw in my two cents anyway because I think you might be looking at this from the wrong angle.  I only say this because my friends and I started getting really competitive at our 6 cup home games about 3 years ago and stumbled upon the WSOBP.  At that time satellites were few and far between and you can forget about any bar cash games or tourneys.  We lived in AZ and there was nothing but house games.
     
    One of the first satellites I heard about in AZ was a year and a half ago in Phoenix and my friends and I knew 2 months in advance and couldn't wait for it.  There were 109 teams!!  Now there are satellites or large cash tournaments once or twice a month in a lot of states along with weekly bar games.  The problem seems to be that the market has been saturated with tournaments and places to play where as it used to be more of a novelty that the casual player saw a poster and said "oh cool there's a bp tourney, we should play," hence the larger turnouts.  Now the casuals might play occasionally but since there are more tourney's to choose from, turnouts dwindle because they went to the Tuesday night tourney instead of the Thursday night one.
     
    The point is there are so many tourney's now that the casual ponger just picks and chooses which one he may want to play in if at all, he does it for fun, and doesn't usually know who wins them all.  But people who really enjoy the game will usually come back regardless of circumstances.  Shit my partner and I live in CO now and always come in 2nd to HP Puppet Masters, but we keep coming along with the same 15 or so teams.

    Actually bpong declared themselves the "official governing body of beer pong" in their blog this past year.

    Should just have a ban on Kinsey. Not because of his beer pong skills for his scare away female capabilities.

    A longer table wouldnt help the image as much as a taller table or one wit the bar than piotr is proposin. The problem seems to be mainly wit the perception of the dunk, if the table is longer youll still be leanin as much, but with the taller table or the bar it hinders ur leanin

    I think if we had 12 foot tables, it would be very hard for people to claim the leaners dunk.
     
    Maybe the solution is just a tape line? - An enforceable elbow rule to prevent leaning entirely.
    I agree that there is obviously an ENORMOUS disparity between tournament players and "party" players when it comes to leaning.
     
    If we could eliminate the lean, I think that would be the single biggest change we could make that would go the furthest toward bringing in this other demographic.
     

    My only problem with the tape line is that the tables can shift, and if it moves 2 inches toward one teams side, that actually amounts to a 4 inch swing.. If there are 16 or 32 tables set up, this can be difficult for teams to notice. (plus some people actually bump the table and move it during their shot, screwing up the distance if the line is directly taped to the floor)
     
    I used paint to throw together another possible solution..
    This thing could have varied, extendible length like the legs do with the sliding bar.. and clip directly onto the bottom bar (and sides of legs when not in use..)
     
    I think that gives it enough room to easily increase the table to 11 ft.. extra 1.5 on each side
    This way if the table slides one way or another both teams will still be shooting the same distance

    Good thought Foster.  This would also give the option to have no line for girls teams.  At 3 East a few weeks ago there was a line (Farley was tired of people bitching) but girls didn't have to use it.  This actually made one team real competitive but that was the Rocha twins and they're pretty damn good anyway.
