    Post subject: Charity Beer Pong

  • I had some ideas to possibly improve the charity beer pong events.

The first is that I think the winners should get some sort of increased recognition.
For example, instead of saying that all the money will go to charity, we could say that a donation will be made in the winners' names. Right now if you win, it doesn't feel like you really did anything. But if you can tell people a donation was made in your name that feels more significant.

The second idea takes things a little bit further.
One thing I've always noticed is that in charity shows on television, the contestants are always playing for a charity of their choice.

So for example, I could decide to play for the ronald mcdonald charity, austin could play for MS, whoever could play for CFF..etc and the money is distributed to the various charities depending on who wins

    Thoughts?

  • I don't think anyone really plays in the charity events to benefit the charity. Sure, there may be a couple of new teams that wouldn't normally play, but mostly I think it is just another beer pong tournament to most patrons.

Now the one time that Austin and Jim held a charity tournament to benefit someone's dog, that was ridiculous. Just give me the damn money.

Jeff, in the past there have always been prizes.
In this tournament you're paying $40 to enter and have no chance of winning anything back.

I won the CFF charity tournament a while back, but I benefited. This time around it's a direct contribution to charity.

I was 100% against that tournament. Jim is a sucker and Phil is a scumbag. However, the dog was cute.

  • Since you guys are talkin about charity pong tourneys, I thought I'd jump in. For any of you that would like to play in a charity tournament that also pays out the winners, I was informed about a tourney in MoCo next weekend (May 2 at noon) that sounds like a good time.

Tommy Joe's in Bethesda (its like a block from where the Bethesda Spring League is held) is hosting a 64-team tournament that donates the majority of the money to charity but $500 will go to 1st place and $250 will go to 2nd. The buy-in is $60, but like I said, the majority of the money is going to the Debbie Pieri Angel Foundation.

I'm not exactly sure what rules are being used, but I'm talking to the guy who's running it to get some more info. As of now there is not a website, but here is the link that you can use on Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event … mp;ref=mf. I'll be there so hopefully a few other MD Beerpong teams will play as well.

    Who won that tournament anyway?

Hmm.. sounds like my charity idea is falling upon deaf ears.
Oh well. It's still interesting to me that we have no prize this time.
