  • Hey guys, just curious what your thoughts are on changing the current MD Beer Pong rebuttal rules to reflect the WSOBP rules.

I used to be a big fan of the current rules because you always have a chance no matter how many cups back you are. But at the same time, it is becoming increasingly more easier to force overtime.

I think it would help bring a much more level playing field because the current rebuttal rules seem to benefit the best players and teams. I think it will also help better prepare us for the WSOBP because we will have more experience shooting rebuttals in this manner.

What do you guys think? I think Austin is planning on doing a poll but I wanted to see what you guys thought.

I just think it's too easy to force overtime now, and although I don't know the stats, I think the team that hits rebuttals tends to win in overtime because they have the momentum.

At the Taps tournament, we hit 6 rebuttal shots against Wet Ballz and won in 4OT. At College Park league on Sunday, Epsilon 7 hit 7 rebuttals against us and won in a multiple OT game. We hit 2 rebuttals three times in a row and beat Who's In Your Mouth in 6OT on Sunday, too.

I mean, there was a 14OT game a couple of weeks ago. I just think it is becoming too easy.

  • I wouldn't mind the rule change. It just shows who truly is the best "team"

  • i 100% agree with you jeff. I know during the winter league my team was averaging about 5 overtime games per night, i only played in 1 other league and that was the winter league 2 years ago and i know games going to overtime were no where near as common. People are getting better and in the past when you hit the last cup and force the other team to hit a 3 cup rebuttal it was few and far between that they would make all of them but now it almost seems like its going to go to overtime because of the talent level. so i vote for the change

  • As much as I like the current rule, I would say that a change would only make us better, especially for the world series.

  • Hey guys,

I run tournaments up here in Montreal and I enjoy watching the finals videos you guy put up every week. The competition up here is pretty wide so overtime isn't always an issue but I do notice it in your tournament that it's expected to go into OT.

What you have to keep in mind is that by keeping a shoot till you miss rebutle it gives the better teams a huge advantage over lesser skilled teams.  It severely diminishes the number of upsets in the tournament and allows for too big a margin for the better teams to catch up and eventually beat them in OT.

Basically by giving a shoot till you miss rebuttle makes the 10 rack game SLIGHTLY less important if you fall behind by 2 cups when they finish you off.

I definitely think it'd be in your league's best interest to use wsobp rules. It will make every shot count a lot more in the 10 rack game because leaving your team 4 cups left could be fatal!

  • I completely disagree with u Jeff I think this is the only rule that wsobp needs to change. Anyways how is your team mate going to carry you ( Jeff )  after you miss your rebuttal shot and the games over? Also as soon as you lose a game because Adam or whoever u play with missed a shot your gonna want to blame him for your lost.  The way the rules are set up now you both have a chance to decide your fate. If we change the rules and you lose a huge game because your teammate missed a shot your going to want to change the rule right back.

it is a team game though... one player shouldn't be able to carry a team.

Jeff always takes the first shot anyway. So if there are 2 cups left or 3 cups left or even 1 cup left, Jeff will probably be the one taking that first shot. That's exactly how we did it in the WSOBP.

There were no hard feelings either. If he misses, o well. That just means we should've hit more cups in regulation.

I think we should change the rule though
