    It's Sean,

I would have liked to win the Spring Classic, but I'm not upset with how I've done.
The lowest I've placed so far this year is 2nd.

Rebuttal joking aside, I know if you guys are going to get knocked off the pedestal of yours, I'm going to have to do it myself. It's obvious nobody else here in MD is going to do it for me (besides darvick lol)

I'm not sure if that was a rip or a compliment, so I will treat it as neither.  We obviously don't see eye to eye on a lot of things and this is no exception.  Perhaps we're just wired differently but I would be furious if I finished 2nd .  I think you're the best shooter in the league, but Jamie and I are at a different place mentally than you, and everyone else in the league for that matter.  It's lonely at the top Sean, but I love my pedestal.

Furthermore - I am disgusted that Darvick stole, and then wore my championship yellow Polo...and actually won in it.  The only positive here, is that he might be the only person in the league that wont stretch it out. FML

gotta love theo and the peoples champ!

  • I think a possible solution to this rebuttal debate is to have a compromise and adopt the WSOBP style of rotating players on rebuttal shots, but allowing to 2 unlimited shots instead of one. This will allow teams that want to get prepared for the WSOBP to get exposure to the rule format but also gaurantee that both players get at least 1 shot to rebuttal.

I don't even count how many tournaments I've won anymore.
All I know is that it's a lot - and you can't always control things.

At present, to consistently place no lower than 2nd (rather than say, going 0-2) is a strong characteristic. I am training to win atlantic city, and I am training to win the world series.

Enjoy your spring cup starter check this summer, when Austin and I take home the 25k.

I also would like to say goodbye to 14ot games,  and all the excitement in MDBP.

I've gone from losers bracket to championship game 3 times now back to back to back.
Austin only knows how many overtimes I participated in.

Actually, I probably have that on record for myself.

  • With jordan I had a 14 overtime game against Larry.
2 games later I had a 4 overtime game against Larry.

out of 9 games total, those were my only overtimes of the night.

In philly with larry i had 2, 3, 5, and 1 OT games. (9 games total, with  4 having OT)
    At the spring cup, i had 1, 1,  1, 1, 5, 1 OT games (10 games total with 6 having OT)

So for the last 3 tournaments:
That is a grand total of 28 games with 12 of them having overtimes. (42%)

I totaled 39 overtimes, or an average of 1.4 OT a game.
Although to be fair, that 14 OT match against larry really boosted things up a bit.

  • You need to decide what is more of the staple event(s) for MDBeerPong and leave the current rules alone for now.  Then you take whichever you didn't pick (Tourney's or Leagues) and have a few events that play with the new rules (WSOBP).  Leagues obviously give people the most time to play and form a true opinion but it's Directors choice or the Director letting the people choose.  Then you can see if turn out, experience, level of play, and fun factor of the WSOBP rules are something you want to become permanent here in MDBeerPong.  Everything else I have read is speculation, experience from others trying different rules, those that have 'tried it out WSOBP stye' or direct comparison to experience from the WSOBP itself.  I say mix it up and decide later which way is the way to go.....or leave it as is and always throw in a few WSOBP rule events out there.

  • So almost 200 people have voted on how they feel about a potential rule change. As of right now the split is 44% in favor of changing the rule and 51% in favor of leaving it (5% no opinion).

I think we might institute the "alternating until one player misses" idea but keeping the existing rules as they are. I think it's a fair compromise since the vote is so close. I'm not sure this rule will effect anything but we'll see.

I do like Fuali's idea (Greg or Rob??) about varying the rules based on the event. Since we plan on having more WSOBP satellites this year anyhow, we might want to play all those tournaments under WSOBP rules.

I haven't really chimed in on this yet, but personally I think MD rules are more fun and exciting but I also think they are hurting us once we are playing at the world series. I know that I don't feel much pressure shooting rebuttals knowing my partner can send it to OT without me. I don't even worry when I'm down 5 to 1 in regulation because sending the game to OT is still manageable. I think this mind set is really dangerous when you are playing WSOBP rules.

  • Honestly, I don't really care. I can find the advantages and disadvantages to both.

I think primarily, my concern is that it is just too easy to send a game into overtime and then too easy to keep a game going. Last night at College Park, probably half of our games went into overtime, with a 5OT game against Chugsters and a 12OT game against Who's In Your Mouth. I don't think Bryan shot a rebuttal shot against Chugsters because I kept making them.

I also watched Chris hit 6 rebuttal shots against Carlton Banks to send the game into OT, and then watched Carlton Banks do the same thing against us (7 I think, actually).

Once upon a time, that was impressive. It's almost expected now.

On the flip side, it is nice knowing you are NEVER out of the game and personally I like shooting rebuttal shots. It's great practice for clutch situations.

As time goes on, and in tournaments for the rest of the year, I think you are going to notice it taking increasingly more time to finish your 15 games and tournaments will last longer.

But again, I can see both sides to changing it. Either way, see you in overtime.

  • I think the only rule change should be the alternating rebuttals.
