  • It certainly looks from this video that the MD team was indeed affected by the distractions and trash talk of the NY team...

MD shoulda gave NY some of their own medicine.  MD allowed NY to win over the crowd and get into the heads and disrupt their play.

    Austin,

As the commish of MDBP i think you need to step in and check the evidence. Id love to know if the camera was actually pointed at me, and if so id love to see the infamous picture lol

You looked good man. Definitely got your good side.

Thanks Barnes, but you know as well as i do....i only have good sides

  • Here are my 2 cents:

I do believe that distractions are, in general, part of the game. They are a reason that the game is so accessible to everyone, and one of the reasons that a lot of people like Beer Pong the first time they play. For this, among other reasons, I don't forsee distractions leaving the game. I don't personally think trash-talking is poor sportsmanship. When the game is over, you and your opponent should hug it out, and that's it.

I have a recollection of us discussing laser pointers at some point, and I thought that we had written the rules to specifically exclude any distraction that used light to limit someones ability to view the cups (laser pointers, flash photography, etc). I don't see that in the rules, so that is now on my list of edits.

That said, almost every sport (no, golf is not a sport) allows fans to use flash photography. Just think about how many cameras go off when Kobe goes to dunk. I don't forsee us outlawing the use of flash photography by fans (for a number of reasons, including the obvious practical difficulties of enforcing such a rule), so you'll just have to get used to it. Players using flash are another story entirely...

And while we're talking about sportsmanship, if anyone tries to imply that Sidney Crosby is a poor sportsman for not shaking Lidstrom's hand, go to hell. He had just won his first cup, and simply forgot. He would *never* intentionally spite an opponent, especially one as respected as Lidstrom (he wouldnt have even done that to Hossa). Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Lets Go Pens.

  • I don't do it for a few reasons, I guess. I'd prefer to beat a team without acting like a maniac and yelling and shit as they try to shoot. If someone is doing it against me, as long as they're not being personal with their attacks, it doesn't bother me in the least.

However, I know that if I am pissed, I can't shoot at all. For example, one of our last games of the day were against a team that was almost literally in tears because of people being allowed to lean. We watched Chauffeur and his partner play them and that team and their buddies watching were saying "this isn't beer pong, he's fucking dunking it in."

So, needless to say, I knew this would bother me especially because I now lean a lot more than I used to. So when we played them, I made sure I stood a foot at least behind the table when shooting just so they wouldn't cry and get under my skin.

I guess the bottom line is that it is part of the game, but it can get out of hand.

Are any of those cameras literally 2 feet from his face?
Actually I've had people at your event screaming in my ear at the top of their lungs 6 inches away. So a camera flash could be that close as well.
(Sometimes you just get one of those tables on the side..)

But seriously i think the camera flashes in other sports are a lot less blinding given the distance involved.

So how about it? Worldwide ban on props?

I don't know if it's that straight forward.
You mentioned cups. What about balls?

What if it's one of the bright white game balls?
You can still wave that around behind the cups.

    How about clothing?
There are guys that dressed like girls in the documentary.

What if I'm wearing a bright white glove on my left hand because I idolize michael jackson, but I wave that hand behind the cups during my opponents' shots..

Then I simply bring a young hairless boy with me to dance behind my cups and entice you.

FYI I saw a Michael Jackson impersonator at the casino one of the nights.

I think Major League Baseball has restrictions on what the pitchers can wear. For instance, I'm pretty sure they can't have a white glove because the batters couldn't pick up the ball.

Yeah, there's a pitcher on the Giants with tattoo sleeves and they make him wear long sleeved shirts to cover them up because it's considered a distraction as well.

Guess your gonna have to start wearing a sleeve then Baker!!

Distractions are part of the game man, it makes it so much better and hypes everyone up. Not everyone could distract and scream either as I know some ppl get unfocused themselves when they get to heated.

At least were not taking distractions to the level of Baseketball......Although that would be interesting to see.....
