  • We had a MD Beer Pong poll on the website recently, but I have a feeling the results may have been skewed.

You didn't have to be logged in to vote, so anybody could have voted multiple times!
For example you could vote from home, then go in to work and vote from work.

If you know what you're doing, you could (for example) use a proxy server to keep voting over and over again from the same computer disguised as a different IP address.

I'm really pretty divided on the issue, and it's not that I disagree with the outcome of the vote.
I just think it's all a big facade if anybody can vote as many times as they want.

Also the way things were set up last time, anybody from this forum in any state could have shown an interest and voted to change our rules too.

If Austin resets the poll, and makes it so you have to be signed in to vote, only MD beer pong players will be able to influence our decision.

It's not a public system so only the real players have accounts, and you can only vote once.

  • Unless of course I am beating the issue to death; redemption has been discussed at length.

How do you guys feel about it?

Also I don't mean any offense to Austin by raising the issue.
He makes a good website, but nobody should expect him to be a network security specialist.

Sean - We could definitely make it so people could only vote once. It really wasn't set up to be a real vote and we weren't going to make any drastic rule changes based on the poll. I can imagine seeing Joey running around the Montgomery County library voting on every computer.

Believe it or not,  I'm smart enough to vote multiple times from my own home,  if that's what I wanted to do.
