    Post subject: SCBP Open Updates

  • skinny and/or peter, i was hoping to see the video of either our game versus smashing time in round 8 pool play, or video of the finals. not sure who was shootin the footage of the other games, but if you have either of those games, i'd love to see em. and thanks again for all the time and effort you put in to making this happen. it truly was one of the unforgettable weekends of my life, and it wouldnt have happened without you guys.

    I think the ruling was correct according to the rules in this case (I'm the guy in the teal shirt in the background of the video so I saw it live). But, it was very close, and if skinny had not been there recording with video evidence I can't imagine this doesn't cause a serious issue, and I can forsee it being an issue at some point. Bpong might want to rethink this rule cause it's open to interpretation. Might be best to just to always allow knocked over cups to count...

    The fact that I was filming it was nice, but honestly, that ruling was very clear to me from watching it live. I only went back to the tape to show the players what I saw.
     
    The Champ made a valid point on Facebook which is that the term 'enter the cup' might be open to interpretation. I can tell you that I have never seen a case at the WSOBP or anywhere else where this was interpreted any differently than the way I interpreted it, and I thought that everyone was familiar with that rule, but I will clarify the rule to say "any part of the ball has broken the plane of the top of the cup". We can't allow all knocked over cups to count, because then you'll have teams pegging the front of the cup as hard as they count (yes, this would be some pussy shit, but the rules need to specifcally handle this).

    Hersh - glad to hear you had a good time.  Wish we could've been there in the finals to make it a little more interesting for the crowd, but it just wasn't meant to be.  
     
    Mooney told me last night that he has video from the Smashing Time game.  Tyler may as well.  Anything that Tyler took will likely not be available for a while (a week or so).  He got a lot of footage that he's going to have to cut up.
     
    Setting up this event was not easy, but it was great to have bpong's support - not only with the playing equipment, but with the moral support.  Organizing a weekend event is not for the faint of heart, or for those who have financial gain as a priority.
