  • V) A) 2) On day three, possession and table side will be chosen by the team with the superior rank in prelims. In the event of a tie (two teams with the same win-loss record and Cup Differential Per Game), a coin toss will determine who chooses to shoot.
     
    Unless you guys have a ref with a scoresheet announcing each table, it seems possible that team could lie about their win/loss record. They could also just be drunk and remember wrong.
     
    If that's not an issue, lets say the team from the losers bracket has a superior preliminary ranking. They have to win twice in the finals. So they'll play the other team twice in a row and get choice advantage both games back to back for the most important matches of the WS.
     
    Yes they had the preliminary ranking advantage against a random draw of weaker teams, but then again the other team is/was undefeated on day 3 against the strongest teams so it seems a little lame to be given that disadvantage twice in a row in the finals.

    So if your lean tilts the cups you lose a cup?

    why not just make it "the higher seeded team gets choice" - all the way from 1 through 128?

  • V) B) 1) The ball in play may be grabbed, however ONLY after it has already made contact with a cup, but not while the ball is in the cup. You may not grab before the ball has hit a cup.
     
    V) G) 1) 1) Players may not cross the plane of play (the imaginary plane which runs vertically and separates you from your cups) with any part of their bodies, clothing, or other objects, while the ball is in play. To avoid violating this rule, just stand back a few feet from your cups.
     
    This seems to be a slight contradiction, since it's impossible to grab in defense without crossing the plane of the table. Maybe a slight change of wording in the section about distractions.

  • i really never thought i would see the dipshit rule work in real life, but i actually pulled it off in a game a few weeks ago.  i knocked over a cup & put it back in the rack without the other team seeing.  i have a question though...
     
    i couldn't refill the cup with beer, otherwise the other team would have noticed -- which leaves an empty cup out there, which is really easy to knock over, even with a "missed" shot.  can you add to the rules that on the following turn (after the dipshits who didn't see the cup knocked over have both thrown a ball) you can announce that the cup was knocked over and then refill it with water/beer?

    From the official rules as Foster points out above:
     
    "Incidental contact aside, a player may not move the cups out of position with his hand or any part of his body. Any prolonged leaning which results in lateral movement or tilting of cups is prohibited and will result in a one-cup penalty (the choice of cup will be granted to the opposing team). "
     

    From the synospis of changes for WSOBP4:
     
    3C. "We have disallowed the act of moving of the cups out of your way to shoot. If you want to lean and tilt the cups, fine, but you cant move them away from the edge of the table first."
     

    So, is leaning and tilting cups permitted while you shoot or not. I think if it is not permitted and there is a penalty there will a lot of arguements because it happens A LOT.

    I think the whole idea behind this is if your shot involves touching/tilting the cups and the cup slides way out of formation and then you leave the cup on the side because you know for your next shot you won't knock it over because in effect you moved it (albeit without your hands) but it still does the same job.  If the cups are slightly out of order, any good team will ask for a tightening of the rack.  But I believe this applies only to cups that go WAY out of formation.  Of course if your shot involves tilting the cups all the time, I probably wouldn't mind so much because on nearly every shot, your chances of knocking over a cup are increased greatly.

  • I agree with Juzam above.
     
    In fact it makes a nice destraction that works almost every time.  As soon as you see those cups leaning and they're getting ready to through point it out!  Either A) the player will look down right after shooting and mess up their shot, or B) the teammate will look and probably say something to him as hes shooting.
     
    Seems to work every time I've used that haha.
