  • and while we are on the topic of corrections... the curve for making shots is not exponential.  it cannot be if there is a set # of shooters and limit on maximum cups per turn.  exponential would imply that your makes increase by an exponent.  this cannot occur unless the cups you make are now on your team and they make cups for you as well

that sounds completely reversed to me.  if the cup is larger and has a better chance for any shot to go in (your words) then that would favor the lesser skilled players.  the definiition of skill in this game is to hit what you are aiming for.  if you are more skilled that would imply you that when you miss, you miss by less.  in your last example you stated that people were missing by a lot of distance in your tournament.  so how is making the cups larger worse for them? by this rationale, the skilled players would never be able to make 14 oz cups, only lucky shitty players, and if we used trash cans or ten circular swimming pools, the skilled players would benefit from that more than the lucky players.  completely backwards and an obvious sarcasm in the examples before you slam me on logic of size of venue if we used swimming pools.

i think he just meant a larger, thicker rim, not a larger diameter of cups.

personally, i think the bpong cups are more difficult to shoot at than standard 16oz solo cups since the top diameter is smaller. they also seem more rigid to me, which makes them a bit less forgiving. that said, everyone is shooting on the same cups and has the same chances.

  • nick i was referring to just a larger rim, not a larger mouth.
the opening can be the same size, but with a larger rim it creates more of a gap between the cups.

that was my original point, because in large groups the bpong cups have very little gap between the different holes you can make. easy to accidentally go in the wrong hole

as far as exponential goes, there is a vertical asymptote on an accuracy of 100%, and yes you are correct there is a restricted range of 10 cups on most games but that was a whole other thing entirely Well

Standard solo cups are bigger (~18 oz), which is why the bpong cups look smaller (only 16).  I would disagree that they are rigid.  I guess I've seen hundreds of bpong cups the last couple of months, and I've noticed that there are some that are fairly rigid, and others that will lose their shape the second you pour liquid in them (bottom falls out, and they start to tilt funny).  Most fall in between.  In general though, I'd say that the bpong cups have thinner, less rigid plastic than solo cups.

As for that mattering at all - you are right that it doesn't.

  • i think there is too much difference of opinion on the cups used.  maybe we should just change the tournament to a large 800 person flip cup tourney.  still use the bpong.com tables of course.

  • Has any played with glass cups u have to hit perfect shots most of the time in order to make it, but this would make tournaments that take twice as long if not longer. As long as everyone uses the same cups it shouldn't matter. If your a smart enough shooter to lob shots for softer landings n get lucky then your just better than people throwing lasers n knocking cups over. Have the championship game play with coffee cups if people think there that great of shooters.
