Should we make teams hold hands while shooting too?

    Yes

I fully support this, ive done it before and my shooting % went to 99. I said "no homo" though first

  • I think most good teams just go with the hot shooter as it is. You don't see Pop taking every roll back shot. Some teams are an exception, but people at the higher skill level play with someone almost as good as them anyway. It isn't goin to make a large difference. You want your hottest and best shooter taking the most shots, like kessler said get the most touches. Rules are fine the way they are because in order to get that third shot both players have to make it anyway.

  • Just an idea throwing it out there (the idea of the thread).  So is Foster's idea with your teammate must make the third cup twice as well.  If we're truly making it a team aspect of the game and not one person carrying it, then I think it's worth some consideration.  You shouldn't be worried about it if you have confidence in your partner and they're halfway decent.

I don't think this would fly because of time considerations. Why not bring both balls back though (maximum of 4 shots per turn) and have both teammates shoot?

That has always been a dream of mine, it would also make the games go a little bit quicker...

  • I don't think it would add that much to time considerations in a tournament..  we're only talking about 3rd balls here. The pace of a tournament is set by the slowest teams, and this is a rule that will maybe effect 3 shots a game in regulation for teams that are already hitting consistently together. The slower a team is hitting, the less this rule will come into play.

But yes, it adds some time to the better teams' matches, indeed; I think the biggest time impact would be seen in overtime. Personally I feel like it would help to balance out overtime games, since it will be harder for teams to bang out 3 to start. I guess it comes down to personal priorities for the rules. I would rather see a little extra time added to the matches for the changes that this would bring.

I think we've all become accustomed to the limited rollbacks, and I'm perfectly accepting of how things have turned out but teams should really have to work for that 3rd cup.

My only problem with this rule has been that right now if you have a perfect team game, the lead player can make 7 cups and the support player can make 3. That's always bothered me.

This alternative suggestion builds significantly on the team aspect, because if you want that 3rd cup then both teammates have to make 2 in a row. 1 each for their turn, and then both in the same cup for a 3rd.

  • I think its case by case depending on your team.  I love Fosters suggestion because like Foster (with Austin) both myself and Deep a more then capabable of hitting the rollback and in this case both rollbacks.   This does somewhat prevent one player from dominating a game.   The bad part of the rule is that this will even further extend the gap betwenn average teams and the Elite.

Beer pong has turned into any other sport with free agents.  No longer do players play with their boy from home or college buddy.  Everyone is upgrading and playing with players who like in my case could live a state away.   The rule is great when you have 2 top players but is terrible for a top player and an average one and even worse for 2 average players.

Hey this is beer pong.. the gap really isn't that big.
Anyone is capable of beating anyone at this game if you catch them at the right time.

  • I'm all for the rule Foster suggested (if time isn't an issue). I know I suggested a 2 ball rollback, but now that I think about it, the best solution is:

    No rollbacks at all

It ensures both players on a team carry their weight, would only minimally slow down the game, if at all, and opposed to the 2 ball rollback ensures one team doesn't jump ahead too far on 1 turn. Also, how hard is it to actually hit 2 cups in a row? Should teams really be rewarded for it with another shot?

I'm pretty much for any suggestion that ensures both players on a team carry their weight. I can't think of another sport or game where 1 player can carry their team as much as in bpong.
